Eric Charles commented on JAMES-1286:
-------------------------------------
I can understand Robert willing to avoid factors blocking the release, and
separation of concerns such as an additional app module is a way for this.
I'm more worried on releasing server components that are not package with
startup scripts, conf files... than on the extra vote/release overhead.
Except if I miss something, the server release will need to wait for the app
release to be ready (or it will be unusefull for the end-user).
So I don't see how this will give a faster solution to our users.
For this reason, I will cast my -0: 'I won't get in the way, but I'd rather we
didn't do this.'
I'm still in favor of splitting the review work, after all there are not some
many jars to look at.
> Factor Out Application Assembly

> Priority: Blocker
>
> Assembling the final james application from the server components from which
> it is composed. Integrating these builds necessitates that application and
> server components are released together. Until maintenance of license and
> notice information can be automated, this creates a bottleneck and any
> problem with either server components or application assembly stops both
> releases. Application assembly is logical downstream of the server component
> build. This bottleneck can be eliminated by releasing the server components
> first and then the assembled application.
