I feel like a troublemaker.  Like I say, logs/phoenix.log does not get
touched when I try to pass options, because it doesn't get far enough.

And I'm not doing anything extraordinary, I assure you.  There's no
code-snippet to send!

Here's what I do:

1) change directory to the PHOENIX_HOME directory
2) export JAVA_HOME to an appropriate JVM (1.4.2 in this case)
3) ./run.sh -l /var/logs/james_dev/phoenix.log

I don't have any other PHOENIX-related variables set.  I let the run.sh
script (and the subsequent execution to phoenix.sh) do the work.  And you
have the results.
