Right, but if James returns a 530 it is quite possible that Outlook is translating that message.  Double check your settings in Outlook.  Also Outlook is notorious for caching connection info, so close Outlook, reopen it, and then change the settings again before you test it.

I just noticed that "530 Authorization required" is not a message coming from James (we don't have "Authorization required" in our code so james can't write this), so you have something else in the chain that goes wrong.

The users were added using james console manager. I am using database storage for everything.
Outlook is set to authorize using the same credentials as my pop3 server. I am able to receive emails just fine. I just can't send them from a server that isn't on my network.
Thanks.

I am trying to set up James to allow relaying for authorized users. I have set the authRequired to both true and announce but when I try to send an email I get the 530 Authorization required failure. I am using Outlook Express to send the messages.  Am I missing something? Is there a switch to get more info from the logs?

Attached is my config.

How did you add the users to James?
How do you configure the smtp user in Outlook express?
