Of course SHA base64, But why I can't read mails exactly from DB? Now I write application to browse mails in DB repositroy without SLOW pop3. Working good and fast! proper wraper for low level operation it's enough! If clien want fetch mails from the server then run Thunderbird. You could also access the email from web by login via pop3 to the > server from the webapplication.
