See my last post (I don't think it had percloated through the list
when Craig sent this).

I agree with this.

The reason for the way I defined the extension mapping rule is that
directories can have periods in them.

If you have "extra" path info after the file name (plus extension) it
is logically impossible to conclude (without reference to some data
other than the path) to conclude that a path is, or is not, referring
to a directory or a file.

I'm not sure I understand the need for extra path info after the file
name...

Craig first suggested this. I can't see where it wil happen. But
maybe I'm just being dopey (happens quite a lot).

Craig, can you elabourate?
