The line would be something like this:

<img src="/servlet/ImageServlet?image=redButton">

then you need output stream in servlet:
ServletOutputStream out = response.getOutputStream();

then the ImageServlet would need to have the content set to for example:
response.setContentType("image/gif");

write data to stream and close it.
