The SUN/Apache partnership on servlets and JSP will considerably help
further the adoption of servlets and JSP in the web world, and to me that's
why SUN is doing this. Increased exposure will mean increased access, will
mean there are more people able to write servlets and JSP, will mean
increased usage, will mean increased demand (I assuming newbies will like
what they see), will mean increased pressure on ISPs and web hosts to
support servlets and JSP, will mean increased coverage of Java on the server
side of web development, which all will mean more Java users, more Java
believers (again assumed), and more money (hey, this is a business after
all).
So SUN does good by doing good, which IS good. A win win proposition
(unless you've been betting on ASP and Perl).
I look forward to the day when I'm not asked to maintain a CGI process
written in Perl (#$%!!!)
