Guys, guys... I'm new to this mailing list, but I can see that
all three of you care about this community and want to contribute to
it. You have differing opinions about the right way to contribute,
sure, but diversity is part of what makes communities great. Watching
you guys argue about it isn't helpful.

I'm guessing all of you are feeling a lot like I am right now -
tired, worn out from long days (and sometimes nights) of programming,
and just a bit impatient. Maybe it'll help to realize this, step back
and take a breath.

Jon, not everybody can understand the source code at a glance -
and not everybody can afford to spend an hour or two perusing the
source of each possibly-useful tool.

Recognize that not every java developer has your particular
knowledge, skills and/or mindset - and if they did, they'd probably be
busy writing their own libraries instead of reusing yours! Recognize
that if somebody asks a question, even if it's the wrong question for
their problem (it usually is :-), they're not doing it for kicks, or
to annoy you, they're doing it because they're stuck.

If you want people to use your libraries - and obviously you do -
then the best way to get them to do so is to _show_ them how your
libraries apply to their problems. Who knows, somebody might even
take your informal answers and write up a tutorial for your website.
It may happen, but I guarantee it ain't gonna happen if you keep
saying "Read the Source, Luke!"

Scott, Ted, people change, but not when they're busy defending
themselves.
