I *entirely* agree with this point of view.  The file extension is mostly
incidental to servlet/web application functions.  I don't find the file
association argument especially compelling as you can argue both for and
against a new extension on that basis.

Frankly I'd be just as happy if they'd stuck to the .zip extension :).
