I tend to agree (for some of the reasons listed here, as well as some
other ones). Basically, I don't see a need to have this list combined
with the newsgroup in any way. And we can just see what happens to
the list naturally if/when the newsgroup is created. My sense is that
they can both coexist separately just fine, due to different
users/participants, different reading styles/preferences, etc.

Hmmm. You seem to be interpreting "gatewayed" as a two-way thing, I
guess I was thinking he meant one-way (i.e. posts to the mailing list
go to the newsgroup, but not the other way around). A two-way gateway
would most definitely be a very bad thing, and, as I said above, I
don't even think a one-way gateway is desirable.

This seems perfectly on topic to me -- discussion of a possible new
forum for serlvet-related discussion -- especially since this list is
potentially impacted. It's on the order of someone asking
about/posting the URL for a servlet-related FAQ.
