Jay,

we have converted large parts of our site from CF to JSP.  We saw significant speed increases, due in some large part to a middleware product caching result-sets.  Other gains were due to the standard compiled vs interpreted gains of Java over CF/Perl/ASP.

Also, we were able to make use of code-reuse to a large degree, something that was difficult if not impossible under CF.

If you browse through our site, you will notice that there *are* areas still using CF and Perl.  Rather than rewriting everything, we identified "critical" regions to re-implement, and merely placed a freeze on new CF/Perl development.

Subject: Input on Servlet Lecture

I am in the process of putting together a lecture for our company IS department on the use of Java servlets. One of the topics I wish to cover is the contrast between servlets and other web development methodologies. I would like to ask the listers for some feedback or web sites to get input on the differences between servlets and

The standard CGI interface.
Active Server Pages (ASP).
Cold-Fusion.

As this is only an introductory lecture to prompt interest in servlet development, I don't need highly detailed explanations, just some general points.

I have Jason Hunter's book and some notes I have saved from the list but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
