I don't doubt you, Geoff, but I do know that I've run Java sockets code on a
Win95 box with no problem, so perhaps (a) I never ran into the same problems
you did, or (b) the Win95 box I had contained some magic patches that came
as part of all the other junk installed on it (DevStudio, for example, seems
to "fix" a lot of the problems that most non-developer machines seem to
have).
Still, it wouldn't surprise me if *just* installing Winsock 2 doesn't fix
everything. <sigh>
To the list: Net result: go with a "real" O/S, as Geoff suggested about four
emails ago. :)
(Although, to be fair, some of the Linux JVM implementations have had
problems with networking, too, or so I've heard.....)
