This will end the session for the client, but not the server.  The session
will hang around on the server until it times out (usually 30 minutes from
last request).

I think what has been asked for here is a method to call the server and
explicitly request invalidation of the session.

Its been awhile since I've practiced javascript, but I'm certain there is
a way to capture the window.close().  Then you could presumably make an
http call to a servlet that exists only to invalidate the session attached
to the request.
