1. Yes and No. If you are writing JAVA code, it uses JDBC to access the
data, even in the internal JVM of 8i.

2. I use Apache+JServ. An excellent combination IMNSHO.
The latest version of OAS, which is just shipping has support for
Servlets.

3. http://technet.oracle.com is the starting point.

4. NO. Servlets inside of 8i will only be available as of v8.1.6. You can
do it now, but it is not production so you will not receive any support on
that combination. (uses Suns JWSDK)

5. You can keep going if you'd like. 8i gives you a EJB container to use.
They are very standards compliant (when one is available) so JDBC (or the
Oracle/Sun/IBM/Sematic JSQL) must be used so that the code is portable.

Good luck,
Thor HW

Subject: Oracle8i and Servlet

Hi all

I have been using JRun and JDBC connection to a Oracle8i database. But I
was wondering about using the virtual java-machine in Oracle8i instead so I
dont have to use JDBC.
So I have a question that I hope somebody can answear:
1. Is that possible?

If the answear is yes mabey you can answear those:
2. What kind of servlet-server do I use(I dont know much about the tools
that came with Oracle, but there is something called Application Server, can
I use the that?)
3. Does anybody know about any site that can help me understand this?
4. Are there andy sites that are using servlets inside Oracle8i
5. Am I on the wrong way and should I just keep using JRun or Java Web
Server with JDBC?

many thanks

Palli
