Take a look at CVS; I used to use VSS pretty exclusively here at home, and CVS's (admittedly VERY different) mode of managing files is, IMHO, far superior. (There's the added bonus that it's freeware, plus it can be distributed across the Internet--I routinely check-in files from home to the office 75 miles away over the 'Net.....)

Of course, I tend to build my Java code from the command-line using makefiles and JDK's javac, too, but.... :)

CVS is available at www.cyclic.com .

Subject: Source Code Manager for Java Applications

we are currently using Visual SourceSafe to manage the storage and archive of our projects. However, it would be nice to have a source management package more specifically designed for Java applications. One that would make it easier to store and retrieve the directory structure of packages and perhaps, be able to display the Javadoc without having to "Check out" the files first.

Any thoughts?
