Take a look at CVS; I used to use VSS pretty
exclusively here at home, and CVS's (admittedly VERY different) mode of managing
files is, IMHO, far superior. (There's the added bonus that it's freeware, plus
it can be distributed across the Internet--I routinely check-in files from home
to the office 75 miles away over the 'Net.....)
Of course, I tend to build my Java code from the command-line
using makefiles and JDK's javac, too, but.... :)
