Hi Folks
We are looking at deployment issues for our Java Servlet and tying to figure
out sizing of the web server. For various reasons we need to use NT Server
4.0.

In the long term the user volumes could reach 500 concurrent users. However,
initially we are looking to support upto 100 concurrent users and then
monitor the situation to see how user volumes increase.

Scaling vertically seems to be a good option initially, by this I mean using
a single machine fitted two 500 MHz Pentium III processors. This appears to
be less of a management overhead than scaling horizontally with multiple web
servers (this would probably also involve the use of an Application Server
such as BEA Web Logic).

Our target platform is:
- NT Server 4.0
- MS-Internet Information Server 4.0
- ServletExec 2.1 plug-in
- Sun JRE 1.1.6

Does anyone have information on how well the Sun Java Virtual Machine works
on an NT Server fitted with multiple processors ?

If anyone has an example machine configuration along with an indication of
the number of concurrent users it can support that would be brilliant.

BTW, we intend to have a second server as a database server (Oracle 8i under
NT Server).

Any information will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.
