Gary,
If you deploy over the internet you are best off using http due to firewall
restrictions at many places. For applet to servlet communicaiton
you may use either object serialization with a URL object or RMI over
http. IE does not support RMI. However, if you use swing you will need the
plug-in so you will not be dependent on the IE VM. In that case you may
find RMI more versatile and easier to use than http tunneling with a URL
object.
