It is very popular among web development shops.  It is entirely written
in Java, but it isn't a standards based servlet engine like Jrun,
WebSphere, WebLogic, etc. in the sense that you can't take a servlet
written to the 2.1 API (or the 2.0 API) and run it in Dynamo.  Same
thing with JSPs.

It does, however, have well developed add ons that support
personalization and ecommerce.  I guess you could say it is both an app
server and an application.
