I spent about 2 weeks contacting a digital certificate companies to try to find
out the answer to this question. I was unsatisfied with responses. All I got
from them was - "not much penalty".
I am trying to move large blocks of data - so I am very interested in the answer
to this question.
How expensive (performance wise) is it to have SSL
communication going? Is it better to have SSL only for the sensitive
stuff or is it OK for the whole application?
