I for one do not see any need for such an apology.

Short one-time announcements that are of interest to the servlet and JSP
communities are on topic as far as I'm concerned, and are documented as such in
the welcome message that all of us received when we subscribed to these lists.  On
this particular topic, the need for educational materials related to servlets and
JSP is very evident -- I'm glad that someone decided to act in response to this
need.

Now, if you want to talk about off topic, how about all the requests for help on
JDBC and what "==" means ... :-)
