MS Access getConnection question

Could somebody explain to me what the DBQ part of the following
getConnection("jdbc:odbc:_DB1_01_00;DBQ=MYDB.MDB") string is for?  It's an
access database with a user dsn.  This is in some code that I inherited which is
not working.
