Anupam,
Your solution is very logical but lacks practicality. Think of a
scenario where there are ten thousand records to be displayed. Then it is
not practical to put such huge amount of data in a single page. Consider the
time it will take to download on a browser.
Secondly, not all browsers support javascript and even those which
do, have the option of getting it disabled. Right??
I think going back to the server and getting the values is the best
option...

Hi jayant,

The scope of my answer is that ur client is a web browser and server is a
servlet .

1. How about this approach ..
The servlet uses the DB connection once and in run time as and when
the items are read the servlet generates a
formatted html page where 100 items get clubbed under one
division/Layer (DIV tag or LAYER tag... decide that depending
        on client browser type) .
2. The final html generated by servlet also embeds javascript (logic code
which displays the divisions or layers) to enable the user to scroll u and
down in his browser.

3. Here neither the con is bound with session id or whole data is kept with
session .
so some problems mentioned by u are overcome.
So even the servlet is not invoked every time (from the browser link
of next set of items)
for next 100 items and so forth.

Subject: Implementing Page Scrolling

Hi Guys,

What is the best way to implement Page Scrolling. I mean, if 1000 items need
to be displayed, I want to display 100 items per page with a link to the
next page. I have thought out many possibilities, but are unable to decide
upon the proper one.

Thanks,
Jayant.
