I am also working on similar kind of problem now. What
I am doing is....
the servlet implements the runnable interface and in
the run method i am talking to the database using a
EJB. There is a flag in the main thread(servlet
thread) and the run method updates this flag before
returning.
Before all this if the flag is set false initially and
the refresh content is set to 5 seconds(whatever u
want to).
And when flag becomes true the output from the server
is sent to the browser with no refresh content set.
