Hi :-) I think it is because:
- javax.servlet.ServletContext is a interface, so no matter
it is declared abstract or not, it is always abstract: i.e.
% if it is not declared abstract, it is still abstract.
% if it is declared abstract, this "syntax" also can be compiled.

- from the source code of ServletContext.java in
   jakarta-servletapi-4_0-b5.zip:
   http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jakarta-tomcat-4.0/release/v4.0-b5/src/

   javax.servlet.ServletContext is not declared abstract.
