Actually, if you set the web context to something other then "/" then you can have multiple applications (read multiple .ear files containing your .war files) deployed in the same application server instance.
You would then get to one app via something like:
Http://mycomputerip:8080/app1/servlet1name
and the other as something like:
Http://mycomputerip:8080/app2/servlet2name
If this is the sort of thing you were looking for then "yes" you can run multiple apps on the same hostname:portnumber combination. If you really wanted to run to seperate servers, then Mark is correct with his "nope".

I have one web-based application in my computer which
is developed using servlet, mysql. It can be invoked
by Http://mycomputerip:8080/dir/servlet calss. now i
want to develope another application using servlet
too.These two application share same mysql and web
server. I am wondering if it is safe i still use port
number 8080 for my second applicaition. I am not sure
if two application use same port number for web server
and mysql server?
