The problem persists. Nearly every time a restart will bring Plone back but I haven't found a non restart method of resurrecting Plone. It appears to be mostly (but not always) when the desktop has been running for a while and Plone has not been. Changing port numbers has appeared to work but I'm not sure this is related but more coincidence. I have moved nomadically through a whole bunch of port numbers but the behaviour is the same on each. I have no doubt it's WinXP Pro 64s problem but it would be good to get to the bottom of it. I have tried stopping and starting the service using the control panel app Services. I feel it's worth documenting in case it is going to cause others hassle.
Documentation of behaviour of intermittent operation with Plone 3 install on Win x64 I don't think this is Plone 3 but a Win XP64 issue. I did see the same behaviour in Plone 2 and that is why I installed Plone 3 Working mode 1: When Plone Controller (PlCon) is run it opens and says Plone is running. The start button does not need to be used. View button from PlCon opens tab in Firefox (default browser) and Plone site is there. ZMI clicked in PlCon yields a Firefox tab with an error: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:8090 [or whatever] Working mode 2: As per mode1 but the ZMI button in PlCon works and there is a three pane window of the ZMI Not working mode 1: On opening Plone Controller the dialogue says Plone is stopped. Clicking Start says Plone has started. Clicking View brings up a blank page in white but with Plone icon in the address bar before http:\\localhost\ ZMI gives the error as per working mode 1 Left open PlCon times out after a few minutes and says Plone is stopped. Refresh of localhost in Firefox still gives Plone icon and blank page Run runzope.bat from command line gives: C:\Program Files (x86)\Plone 3\Data\bin>"C:\Program Files (x86)\Plone 3\Python\p ython.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Plone 3\Zope\lib\python\Zope2\Startup\run.py" -C "C:\Program Files (x86)\Plone 3\Data\etc\zope.conf" Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Program Files (x86)\Plone 3\Zope\lib\python\Zope2\Startup\run.py", li ne 56, in ? run() File "C:\Program Files (x86)\Plone 3\Zope\lib\python\Zope2\Startup\run.py", li ne 21, in run starter.prepare() File "C:\Program Files (x86)\Plone 3\Zope\lib\python\Zope2\Startup\__init__.py ", line 96, in prepare self.setupServers() File "C:\Program Files (x86)\Plone 3\Zope\lib\python\Zope2\Startup\__init__.py ", line 229, in setupServers raise ZConfig.ConfigurationError(socket_err ZConfig.ConfigurationError: There was a problem starting a server of type "HTTPS erver".
