Two things here. Without caching, every request is going to be served by Zope anyway, so adding an Apache proxying layer is not going to speed things up (though it's impact should be very minimal). It's not really any slower either. When you look at the distribution, it's marginally faster at the 80% percentile, marginally slower at the 90%. Only when you look at the very slowest requests do you see that it is much slower. In your first plain Zope test you also see this wide distribution. This suggests to me that you did not do a warm up run first in these runs (so the various caches can be filled.)
