Thanks for the suggestion! I'm using Asterisk as well, and I've looked
into the built-in attended transfer feature before.
There are two problems I'd run in to with this:
a) It seems to only support telephone /numbers/ (I haven't tested it in
practice, but that's what the documentation suggests). We're using
names here for internal telephony (i.e, you dial 'janm' to get to me,
rather than a number), so this would require a significant change and
something that will be a setback for employees.
b) It's a lot more difficult to work with via asterisk than having it
built into a softphone. With asterisk you have to dial *6 to initiate a
call transfer, hang up to have it transferred and *0 to get back to the
original call. In comparison to our current softphone, this is quite
complicated.
While they aren't necessarily show-stoppers, they are quite big setbacks
for our company. I'm in the process of switching all workstations from
Windows to Linux. Right now we're using SJPhone under Windows. When in
a call, employees just type the name of the person they want to transfer
to, press enter, talk, and then right click call A and select that they
want it transferred to call B. Plus, since it's GUI driven, it
visualizes the transfer process a little, which is a nice bonus.
Introducing setbacks along with introducing a new system is something
I'd like to avoid. It's difficult enough to convince people it is
benefical for them to start working with a completely different system,
without them having to deal with setbacks in a process some of them do
all day long (transfer calls).
Plus, you know... attended transfers seems like a nice enough feature to
have in a softphone. :-)

transfers by simply dialing "*6" during a call. No need for the SIP

I think a simple menu option to one call to another, whenever a person
has more than one call active in their SFLphone, would work wonders for
this feature. I can say for a fact that it would enable me to roll out
SFLphone in our company. In fact, I'm in the process of rolling out
Linux throughout the company and eleminating Windows. A softphone that
fullfills all our needs is holding me back. SFLphone is the closest we
have ever come to our idea of "perfect business softphone".
I am a too inexperienced programmer to write this myself unfortunately.
I really hope you are willing to take up this feature request.
One thing I could offer you in return is a translation of SFLphone into
Dutch (NL).
