Hey all,
I took the plunge, and went with a cable modem...Unfortantly, the
hickville cable company that has the monopoly in my area only provides a
One-Way cable service...you still need a modem for the upstream, and the
cable for the downstream...
Luckely, the install-droid couldnt get the dreaded ISA SB1000 crap
card to work in my box, so I was able to get an External SB1100, which
has the modem built-in to it...and connects to the PC thru a regular
Ethernet Rj-45 jack...
This is the way this gadget works:
The External modem has an IP address of 192.168.100.1 It will ONLY
TALK to a box that has an IP address of 192.168.0.1. You have to use
NETSCAPE or EXPLORER to run an internal-to-modem webpage that does the
modem handling and dialing...once the modem connects, your good to go
and online...
So my question, has anyone figured out a way to get STN to work with
one of these creations from the dark-side?
I thought that if I assigned the External-Nic card with the
192.168.0.1 address that the demon-box will only talk to, and then
assign 192.168.1.1 to the Internal-Nic and then use 192.168.1.x for
there rest of the boxes that I should be able to use any PC running
Netscape to get to the pseduo-webserver within the devil-box to connect
since as far as its concerned it is only talking to the External-Nic
which has the required address...
Good thinking right? Nope..didnt work...Not sure why, but I thinkit
has to do with the fact that STN doesnt see anything comming from the
Evil-One when it does its startup....but Im just guessing here...
Whew...Long winded question...sorry...
