Thanks, Carl. I tried it but no joy. I also suspect you may be using a 
different LinkSys card, one that is NE2000 compatible. Product 
descriptions of LNE100TX say "No" for NE2000 compatibility, and LinkSys 
themselves recommends the tulip driver (while at the same time refusing 
to support Linux). On a cheerier note, I bought a D-Link DFE530-TX+ 
(Note the plus) on the recommendation from STN's list of tested cards 
(which listed the DFE530-TX ... no plus). $19.99 at a local Best Buy. It 
didn't work with the Rhine driver, but I soon enough found out the plus 
means it has a RealTek chip. The RealTek 8139 driver seems to work 
nicely with the DFE530-TX+, using AutoIRQ and leaving base address 
blank. I finally got to use my dusty old Macintosh's integrated ethernet 
support, testing both it and another PC with STN and a dial-up 
connection. No problem, until the half-hour ran out :-)
