Sometimes this is due to your web proxy settings in your browser. The STN
box is local and so shouldn't be proxied. My cable modem provider has a
proxy on by default in the browser they provide, for example, in their
network somewhere. If I send my attempt to browse my STN box to that proxy,
it's a 10.* network (or some other non-routable network for them), so their
proxy drops it. Try disabling your proxy setting in your web browser
completely if you have one as a test. Some also have the ability to enter a
particular host (your STN box) that should not be proxied, while proxying
everything else.
In netscape, the settings are at Edit//Preferences//Advanced//Proxies//.
Use "direct connection to Internet" to disable proxies completely (which
might break your connection to Internet web sites if that's your only way
to get to them, depending on your networking setup).
