I agree that the most important thing is to make sure that PnP is
truly disabled and the cards set manually.. I have 2 NE2000 cheapo
cards in my STN and they work fine. The 3com card requires that you
use the 3com diskette to set the card manually. I had talked to the
cable provider, not the local office, the next level and explained
that I was running Linux and needed a fixed IP and was given one.
Although the DHCP seems to work fine with STN. Mine never changes
anyway since my STN never reboots and releases the IP address. My
cards are 0x300 IRQ 9 and 0x320 IRQ 10.
