I did some experimenting with Linux once, so I have some experience in this area.
How about having the print server optional except for those with
enough RAM or HD space? You could have an option to use a
ramdisk if the STN box has more than 64 meg RAM, or to use a
HD. STN would still be able to be used on a low-RAM system, just
without the print server capability. You could have different system
requirements for different configurations.
About the technical issues. Samba is used in addition to the
printer software, not as a replacement. Its main purpose is to
bridge the gap between Win9x and Unix environments.
For the people that want to use STN as a print server, they would
need to understand that they'd need a better computer. That is
just a fact of the computing world.
I myself have no problem with using a third-party package if it
means that I'll get extra capability. All I care about is that it works
and is easy to use.
