I think that for the print server to really have enough ram, it would have to have at least 128 MB, probably more. Since STN right now requires around 16, probably around 24 with print server capabilities, that leaves about 100 for spooling jobs. Since print jobs take up quite a bit of space (a one-page document with some color screenshots took over 100MB), I think that at least giving the user the choice of using a hard drive would be desirable. I know that here we have at least two spare hard drives, and you can get a 500 MB for less than $100. Another problem: How would you support all of the printers. Tjey would need to have written drivers for Linux and/or have HP emulation. Also, some printers put a heavy load on the processor (our Canon Bubblejet in particular). These printers don't even have their own processor, but rely on the host machine to do all of the work. This obviously wouldn't work on a 486, as it brings our P133 to a crawl (taking 15 seconds to make a button depress). _______________________________________________ ShareTheNet maillist - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.webserv.com/mailman/listinfo/sharethenet
