John:

Since you asked for opinions, let me give you mine... STN does what it is
meant to do VERY WELL, and it is a huge benefit that it's a single floppy
solution, IMHO.

Ask yourself what type of product is STN? It's a simple internet linux
router with PPP dial and a nice GUI frontend for configuration. It is not
a print server. It is not a file server. I think pursuing the print
server option might put you in the dangerous waters of "feature creep" that
kills and bloats so much good software. (read MICROSOFT!)

I'm sure that there are those who will violently disagree with me, and they
have every right to. I just thought I'd share my opinion on the matter.

PS: I have 2 linux boxes behind my STN box, one of which does indeed run
printer services and SAMBA, and I agree, it's great to be able to print
from my windows machines to this very robust service. However, even on
linux, you have to have a printer driver/handler, so you'll need to provide
those if you want to bill STN as a print server too. Even with my two
linux boxes in place, STN is my first and only choice to route to my ISP
because it's a true set and forget piece of hardware. I put my old funky
486 in the corner, boot it with a floppy, and forget about it... That's
the way I like it. So, for what it's worth, I would turn off the print
option if it were a choice, in favor of a simpler, smaller, and faster
internet router.
