Hello Jason

On most PCI board PC the serial chip use 16550, upon STN boot up look for 
the line below of something like it.

tty00 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
tty03 at 0x02e8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A

Alternatively you could try make a bootable Dos diskette with file MSD.EXE 
in it and run that diagnostic to check what UART chip use.

I have tried ISA Internal modem and it works fine, I recommend Rockwell 
chipsets, they are the easiest to configure. One important point make sure 
the modem have jumpers setting for IRQ and COMM ports otherwise it won't 
work.
