John,
Thank you for you quick response.

I tried leaving the hostname blank as you suggested, but S50dhcpcd is
still hanging forever (over 15 minutes).
I don't see any TX/RX activity on either card's LED. Should there be
any?
Both cards show up during the NIC initialization. I have an ISA DE202
and a PCI SMC using the Tulip driver.
A few questions:
  - Is eth0 always internal and eth1 external network?
  - Does STN always use the NIC I've identified for the external network
or can the NICs get switch for any reason?
  - If I needed a RoadRunner logon (which I don't think I need) would
it happen during the dhcpcd initialization, giving me the symptom I
    currently have?
  - Is there a debug mode that would show me what's happing? I've looked
at the other two screens (ALT-F2 and ALT-F3), but didn't see anything
    meaningful.
  - Has anyone got STN to work with Cincinnati RoadRunner? Could you let
me know what your setup is?

That should be enough for now :)
If you need more details on my setup, I can provide it.

Thanks,
Dave.
