Hi Jeff,
ip_masq_icq.o is for linux kernel version 2.2+. STN is
still using 2.0.36. We're planning to skip the 2.2 series
completely and use 2.4 when it becomes production later this
year. The reason is this: 2.0 and 2.2 are completely
different when it comes to IP Masquerading, and STN relies
on IP Masq heavily. 2.4 changes it again, and in fact makes
it so that the 2.0 scripts will work again. If I introduce
a 2.2 version, lots of custom startup scripts will break
twice: 1x for 2.2 and 1x for 2.4. If I hold on for 2.4,
then the custom scripts never break at all! So, we wait.
BTW, 2.4 fixes a lot of other problems other than ICQ, I'm
looking forward to introducing it. I'm still planning to
cut a new version to work around the ICQ issue with the
current version, but I still can make the problem occur
(frustrating? yes!) Thanks to all who have given me
information (even offered to send me a machine).
I have a new idea for reproducing the ICQ problem. If
someone is having the problem with _great regularity_ using
an analog modem based ISP in Southern California (or
national), can they please contact me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Perhaps I can get a temporary
account on that ISP, then scrounge up enough information to
reproduce the issue.
Regs,
John
