Mono does a release every month or three. This is from the last release
(1.2.4)
Work to support C# 3.0 has started, this release includes: C# 3.0 Extension
methods implemented by Marek Safar. Anonymous Method generic type inferencing
by Marek Safar. Lambda Expressions, implemented by Miguel de Icaza. It is
currently missing generic method type inferencing (similar in spirit to
anonymous method generic type inferencing). Martin Baulig and Marek Safar
fixed many of the compiler bugs reported so far.
The next one, 1.2.5 will have something like this in the release notes.
Don't pass this beyond this list. This is not any kind of secret, but it is
from a prelinary document.
Variable type inference (the "var" keyword).
Anonymous types.
Array type inference.
Object initialization.
Collection initialization.
Automatic properties.
Marek Safar continued work on the LINQ grammar support and the underlying
System.Core assembly support for it. The C# 3.0 support is enabled by passing
the -langversion:linq option to the compiler. In addition to the above the C#
3.0 compiler also supports: extension methods, lambdas and anonymous method
generic type inference.
They also have a good start on SilverLight, aka MoonLight.
Mono had 2.0 out about the same time as Microsoft (before Microsoft,
depending on how you count), but lagged a bit with 3.0 because of effort being
put into Mono's Winforms and cleaning up the 2.0 extension inthe compiler.
Mono also has a VMware player download with the latest version installed on
Suse 10.2. (I would wait a few days for 1.2.5 to be out first).

I see mono is working on C# 3.0 with LINQ etc. How far along is it?
