Hi Mat,

Does it do this everytime you drive? I know you said you checked the fan, but
could the relay be bad and maybe not "Always" turning on? I had a similar
issue with one of my GLHS's. One time while the car was running hot, I opened
the hood and tapped on the relay. The fan turned on and started cooling down.
Another idea, does your car have an external coolant bypass control? Or does
it have to run through the heater core all the time? My Sundance had to run
through the core at all times. The core plugged up and the car started running
real hot. This was in a matter of a day or two. I flushed the core and all
was fine. But now, if there's a heater controler under the hood, this wouldn't
be an issue with a bad core.
Then there's the answer I'm sure you don't want to hear. Are you loosing
coolant or does the radiator smell like exhaust? I've had a super bad head
gasket leak that would load up a cylinder and start really hard after being
shut off for only 5 minutes. "Bar's Leaks" bought me a couple more months
without a problem. That stuff will plug even the worst head gasket leak. And
other stuff I'm sure. LOL Not the right way to fix it, but it may buy you
some time.
Good Luck
