Hi Joe, Do you have a turbo caravan? I've got 2 89's, a turbo SE and a 3.0 GC-LE.
I've replaced mirror asm's and dissembled and repaired them, but I've never replaced just the glass. Ok, here is what I know. The mirror is glued to a plastic frame. I don't know if you can un-glue it without breaking the frame, it's kind of flimsy.. The frame has 3 little legs on the back that are snapped into ball sockets. The legs can be popped out of the sockets, but the only way to get the legs back in their sockets is to have the whole frame out on the bench. The legs are just pushed into a kind of wire-nut like socket in the housing. 1 socket is fixed in place, the outer one IIRC. The other 2 are powered by tiny motors. The powered sockets rotate and thus drive the legs in or out like tiny jack screws. The sockets are a sort of slip fit and the legs can be pushed in without power or much stress on things. They can be pulled out, but it's not easy as the sockets grip the legs fairly tightly. What I have done is to run the adjustments in as far as they will go, this causes the outer edge of the mirror to tilt away from the frame a little. I was able to pry out the outer leg enough for the mirror to be adjusted beyond it inner limits, then ran the powered side and top out as far as they would go. A back and forth 2 or 3 times and I was able to run the powered legs out of their sockets. Then I could get hold of the mirror frame and pop the fixed leg out of its socket. It takes a light touch as the whole thing is kind of flimsy. I got a couple of JY mirrors and managed to break one before I got it figured out. Hope this helps some, Good luck, oldmoparguy On 3/25/2011 8:52 AM, Joe Fishburn wrote: > I've got the replacement glass for an 89 Caravan but not sure how to install > it.. > I've checked several sources and no one is certain what to do... > > Now this is the mirror glass only, not the entire mirror... > > I'm wondering if you remove the old glass using a heat gun or the like..or > do > you just glue the replacement on top of the old glass?? > > Anyone done this before??
