Agreed too, for me using git log on my copy is a faster and more
comfortable way to read commit history.

Well, the goal of the -dev list is to document all design and coding
decisions. I tend to dislike jira for this very reason. It splits the
responsibility while making the information less accessible.

I have been told, but never really tested it, that a reply to the jira
issues email sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (reply-to will send replies to
issues emails to the -dev list instead) will end up as a comment in
jira.

Don't understand what to you mean here. In any case I would not use a
specific product name, as "jira" for a list. When I arrived to apache,
some lists were called "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" Just as
bugzilla and cvs passed away, jira will in some future moment.
