Well, I'm 5' 9" tall, my 3W is 44-1/2" and I play a 47" or 48" driver. You
can make your woods as long as you can handle them for 18 holes (swingweight
goes up 6 points an inch) and still hit them on the fairway. Depends on your
swing and ability. Go with a lighter shaft, say 50-60 grams, and a light
grip if you go longer than 46". Total weight around 300 grams is good.
Today, the components are available to make 48" drivers much lighter and as
easy to handle as yesterday's (1970s) 43" drivers. But, if you can hit a 45"
driver 260 yards, you don't need anything any longer for most courses. If
you can only hit it 240 (like me at 67), then a couple more inches will
help. I got about 10 yards an inch. Of course, I think the USGA is still
considering whether to limit driver length to 47".
