Discrete flex is a shaft that is not trimable to senior or lady's (A/L) or regular or stiff (R/S) and anything in-between either regular or stiff in the category of senior/lady or regular/stiff. These are called "Combination Flex" Discrete flexes are Lady, Senior (Amateur), Regular and Stiff. Tip trimming for DISCRETE flex depends on the shaft manufacturer's directions. What make of shafts are you asking about? Are they woods or irons? By the way, taper tip shafts are always discrete flexes and MUST NOT BE TIP TRIMMED.
