Pat, I just know of the paint, Ford & BASF, from intercompany hype.    That is the reason so many car's & truck's now-a-days have painted grill openings, like Expedition & Explorer plus all of their car's even Jaguar & Volvo.   Sorry but that's all I know.  At work,  in 1993, they showed us movies of up coming ideas and products.    They had a movie of a Taurus being driven behind a group of trucks, Ford Trucks of course, on a "VERY" rocky road, and it wasn't ice cream either, and just how well the paint preformed.   In the same movie they showed a clip of competitive Value Engineering between an F150 Ford & a 1500 Series Chevy/GMC, those of you who think that there's a difference between a Chevy & a GMC get a life, they're made on the same line by the same unskilled workers, not unlike the workers at Dodge & Ford     plus even worse the transplants.   In the movie they took 2 brand new F150's and 1 each brand new, right from a Chevy/ GMC dealer, a 1500 series truck and loaded them all up with 1 ton of boulders and drove them all 2 laps around the Ford Truck Test Track.  The Truck Engineer's stated the reason for only 2 laps was because the Chevy's & the GMC's boxes fell off the trucks after just 2 laps.

RK,
Do you have more info or links?? I'm interested in this, as it would be much easier/safer to spray, especially if I can use the equipment I already have....

Thanks,
Pat K
