Ahhhhh yes, the Power Pod; I first saw one while on a trip to America's Golf Mecca, Pebble Beach. I was among a group which had the most incredible golf package in which I've ever been a participant. Golf at Pebble, Carmel Valley Ranch, Carmel Valley CC, Laguna Seca, Fort Ord Bayonet, Del Monte, a side trip to Pasatiempo, Spyglass (the best course I ever played in the USA,) and Rancho Canada. The pro at Rancho Canada was featuring the "PowerPod" drivers. The claim was, "you can't slice them." I hit a demo from the range onto the clubhouse roof, some 80 yards right of the range - and at the time I was playing pretty good golf (4 hdcp.) But what was really funny about the club was that a friend of mine, an 18 handicapper and perhaps the worst slicer/blocker I've ever known, showed up one morning with a Pod in hand. He had had it reshafted with a Matzie "licorice stick" shaft. He announced to our happy little group that from then on, the slice was gone and we had better watch our wallets, because "the game is on!" He teed it up on #1, made a mighty pass at the ball, and knocked it over the 25' tall driving range fence on the right, 15 yards away from the tee. It was all we could do to stay vertical for the hysterical laughter.
Further, and I swear this is the truth, Pat, our dearest friend and constant target, died relatively young. His kids buried the friggin' Pod with him. We celebrated the Pod's demise, and lamented Pat's, but we had more fond memories of that day on the course than any other.
