Greg,

I practically lived on that course from 1945 until I moved to Tennessee in
1970...after I got married, actually lived a block away from what was then
(1960s) a practice fairway that ran along the New Holland Pike. Worked on
the course for at least 4 years in high school and college, mostly mowing
tees and greens (push mowers for greens)....and they were the best greens
I've ever seen. Bill Mellon, the greenskeeper and President of the PA
Greenskeepers Association, was also in charge of Dwight Eisenhower's green
at his Gettsburg home. Last time I played it was about 1975, when dad and I
won the member guest...personally shot a 69 in the final round, a nice way
to finish on a tough course.

How is the LCC now? Don't expect that I'll ever get back since parents are
gone. Still have a lot of friends there, though. Played Overlook (where I
played my first round of golf in 1941 at age 7) a couple of years ago with
an ex-Shoptalker, Bill Swingler and a couple of high school classmates. That
course has been improved a lot....but still about the same public muni type
layout it was in the 1950s.
