Hi John... What you have to do is hold it in the stretched position on the shaft until enough of the solvent evaporates that it holds the position...usually not more than 30 seconds or so.
I've attached a small spreadsheet that does the calculations for different grips on different shafts with varying layers of tape....whew, that's a mouthful.... The wall thickness of a given grip is designed to go with a particular shaft diameter to give the designed finished diameter. Stretching the grip or putting a .600 grip on a .580 shaft results in an undersized final diameter grip. Likewise, putting a .580 grip on a .600 shaft will give you a 1/64" oversized grip. Like Al said...forget about stretching a cord grip, same goes for a Winn grip.... I thought of two things. 1. Stretching the grip when off the club (wouldn't do anything but bounce back) or 2. using an undersize grip which would stretch on the shaft, making the grip larger. I also wonder about the stretch you and B are talking about. When I've stretched a grip too far down the shaft (which you're saying would undersize it) it always bounces back (slides back up to it's original position. Do you somehow lock it in it's stretched position so it doesn't slide back up? Seems as if it will be undersized only temporarily.
