I would not suggest the slitting method on graphite shafts. Might start a shaft split depending on the construction of the shaft. Either way slitting or reaming the head, the job is not that difficult. The most difficult part is blending the shaft tip to the sole and that part is much easier with irons than with woods.  Especially if the sole of the wood has a "mirror" finish.  Those require extremely carefull initial fitting of the shaft tip to the sole.
