I have a customer looking for a 3 & 5wood to match
his Driver, are there such clubs ?
See the GS 1999 catalog, page 69 for Black Rock XLD-3 48" driver head,
spec weight 183 grams. The fairway woods were KB II stainless at 14° 3W and
17° 5W. No more KB Black Rock clubs in the 2003 GS catalog, but yes, page 56
of the catalog has a Killer Bee Stinger Plus 3W and 5W, which look very
similar, but have lofts of 15° and 19° and are about 10cc larger.

That's about the only way to keep the swingweight in the
mid-to-low Ds. But, in my experience, a head weight under 190 grams loses a
lot of "pop" in a long driver. If the objective is distance, which is
about the only reason to use a long driver, I think a player will get the
maximum by playing a heavier head on the club, with a swingweight as high as
he (or she) can handle and control for 18 holes. For me and many of my
seniors, that's a head weight about 194-196 grams and, with a 50-something
gram shaft, a swingweight of about D9-E2 at a 48" club length and total weight
about 295-300 grams. I notice that all the newer Killer Bee driver heads have
weights in the mid to high 190s.
